Carolina Duck

Carolina Duck

Description

The Carolina duck (also known as the wood duck) is a perching duck from North America. It is called a perching duck because it likes to perch – on a piece of wood in the water, on a tree branch, anywhere that it can perch. It native habitat is swampland of the Southern states of America but it is also found in Canada. And it is one of the most flamboyant ducks in the New World, and that almost led to its extinction. It was hunted not only for food, but also to provide feathers to decorate the hats of women in Europe. It is still the second most commonly hunted duck in North America, after the mallard.
